Personal Message from the Author

Before May 2020, I was faced with the very tough situation of not being able to meet some of the basic needs that matter to me due to low earnings. My bills were growing faster than the amount I made a month and I had to go borrowing most of the times.

The situation got worse when I lost part of my earnings to pay cut during the lock down of that year.

That forced me into more borrowing. But every new loan I got only added to my rising financial crisis. my debt profile got so bad that between 2018 and April 2020, the money I owed rose to N1.6 million.

Faced with rising family needs to take care of, faced with rising loan to repay, faced with rising interest on loan to pay and coupled with a pay cut that seemed like a threat to life, I called myself one graceful evening, reflected through the mess I was in, I got sick of it and said "Enough!"

That decision to halt my speeding down into ruins compelled me to start learning how I can make money without investing money. My situation at that time made that necessary. Even if I found a good investment avenue that require money, I had no money to invest. My monthly salary was already rationed and I was so scared of borrowing more, not even for investing.

So, I focused only on discovering ideas that can help me to make money without investing money. By May, I launched my first online gig, Smatkaria, using only free tools. Using Smatkaria, I started to monetise my experience  by providing business development and career advisory services online while retaining my full time job as a business development manager in an FMCG company. In August of that year, I made my first extra N127,500 in a month through my gig.

Fast forward to July 2021, I earned over N400,000 in a week through Smatkaria.

The progress I made and the lessons I learned along the way made me to start teaching how to start a business without capital. One of the persons I have had the pleasure to mentor is a childhood friend I will call Lizzy. She started without investing a dime. In her second month of launching her shopping service gig, she made N210,000.
