Doing Business with Kindness

Image
Is it possible to do business with kindness? Some years back, I needed a professional CV writing service and career advice. Someone recommended a firm and a deal was made. The job will be out within three days. I got it on the fifth day. I asked for some job advice. The firm's Rep simply brushed through what was, at best, just a fill-up in the place of an advice. It made me sad that no matter how hard I tried to make an actionable sense from the response I got, I couldn't. I needed more clarification. But the firm could not provide it. My handler gave the excuse: " I'm very busy, like very, very busy" What more? I just reverted to other sources for help, and got what I needed. When we started Smatkaria in 2020, I found an avenue to never let a job seeker feel undeserved. The problem with most seekers is usually not having the kind of network that's needed or  that is willing to help, lacking the skills employers are looking for, poor personal branding, poor pe...

Don't Settle

By Kalu Ndukwe                          Don't settle for a job that doesn't excite you or fulfil your needs. Why? So, I didn't let my contribution to slip. That helped to retain good image. What those we work with say matter. If you need the money, its a good reason to keep up doing a good job, even though your cards remain open. If you don't have a job at the moment, you're looking for one fast, you need the p...

Steps to Develop an Effective Career Plan

Image
A career plan lists short- and long-term career goals and the actions you can take to achieve them. Career plans can help you make decisions about what classes to take, and identify the extracurricular activities, research, and internships that will make you a strong job candidate. Below are helpful steps by MIT , for creating a career  1.     Identify Your Career Options.  Develop a refined list of career options by examining your interests, skills, and values through self assessment . Narrow your career options by reviewing career information, researching companies , and talking to professionals in your field . You can further narrow your list when you take part in experiences such as shadowing, volunteering, and internships.   2.     Prioritize.  It's not enough to list options. You have to prioritize. What are your top skills? What interests you the most? What's most important to you? Whether it's intellectually challengi...

How To Achieve Fast Career Growth: An Advice From A Successful Executive

Image
The road to success in career is easier to travel through the help of quality advice. That's why getting good advice is so important in career.  An advice needs to reflect both evidence ( experience or the story of the adviser) and guidance for it to be truly helpful. Which is why it's great to learn from the stories and words of those who have achieved success in their career. Here are  five golden advice on career success: 1. N egotiate your salary and benefits:  It can feel intimidating to ask for a raise, but it can cost you a lot not to ask. As a job seeker, do not stop at the initial offer. Push past the uncomfortable feeling and go for more than what's first offered. Practice with friends and family then have a talk with your manager where you confidently make the case for a salary increase. Don't underestimate how significant even a 5% raise is. 2. Stay up to date on industry news and technology trends:    M ost people lag behind  o...
