2021 Is Few Days Away: Fresh Graduates, Do This To Make Your Career Dream Come True

I got a few things wrong at the start of my career because I didn't get it quite clear that as far as my career is concerned, I'm a sales person that sell my talent to companies.

I know it can be pretty confusing to some starters that they are the suppliers and companies are, in fact the buyers, when it comes to labour.

Not getting this basic thing clear, is the reason there's so much frustration. I know. I've personally experienced some of the ugly things that, that can lead to.

Take a look at the attached image illustration. Notice how the sales lady carefully guide her prospective buyer to feel the quality and the beauty of the clothing she wants to sell.

What happened up to that point included discovering what the prospect want based on design style, material quality, colour choice and getting the item to the prospect to have a feel of it as seen in the illustration.

Those things are not strictly different from what a job seeker needs to do to get his or her dream job.

  • Be intentional about which organisation to work in, in  2021. " Any organisation" is actually nothing.
  • Prioritise personal development based on what you need to achieve your career goal.
  • Prioritize building good relationships
  • Be the student, learning how to get what you need and doing those things that will help

If you've got the skills required for that dream job, you still need to do the sales part of it.

According to a 2017 report by Jobvite, "only 1 in every 6 candidates who apply for a job get invited for an interview."

Poorly written RESUME and bad cover letter are the cause of it. call it bad sales presentation and you're correct. Poorly written Resumes have prevented several people from getting their dream jobs. Personally, I hate that such a thing happens.

The good I can do is to make you appreciate why you need to be good at selling your talent.

Note the following personality presentation Tools and Avenues and Mind How You Present Yourself Because It Will Count:

  1. Your Resume Or CV
  2. Your Cover Letter
  3. Interviews
  4. Networking
  5. Social Media
Resume and Cover Letter: In most cases, Your resume and cover letter are the first point of contact between you and a recruiter. When that is the case, it means that the recruiter doesn't know you personally. Doesn't know that you're pleasant, hardworking, interesting, productive, etc.

It's the job of your Resume and Cover Letter to make the recruiter to know the unique things about you, as well as why he or she needs to want to know more about you. If your Resume and cover letter don't do that for you, It means that you didn't do a great sales presentation after all.

Interview: Your job during an interview is to convince the interviewer that you have what they are looking for and that you're the one that can do the job well. If you don't know what they are looking for and what the job is about, how can you make such a conviction?

Networking and Social Media: You're giving each person you are connecting with a pass key to get to know you. Just to be clear on this, What those people know about you will either serve your career interest or work against you.

leaving unprofessional foot prints on social media is like giving recruiters good excuses to throw away your application first before doing so for others. It could equally mean giving a recruiter an excuse to be negatively biased toward you. Of course , It's very easy to search through the web for any kind of information that can be obtained about you. If that is so, why not use social media and the internet to project the beautiful things about you?

Conclusion
The earlier a job seeker realise he or she is a sale person, the better it will be for his/her career
